Renea left her guardian and took a walk around the castle alone. Her footsteps did not echo as she walked past the wall of windows on the landinng in the foyer. She moved over to the rail and sighed.

"There was no misunderstanding, Gaia. He's talked about how the other kingdoms wanted something he didn't want to give them. We don't have any weapons, and a discontinuation of the throne would ensure the economical collapse of the country. It makes perfect sense that they'd want me dead." Nero went back to the dining hall, and looked at his father. "How much time do I have."

Renea fled the castle, also fleeing the kingdom. She ran up the stairs, leaving her realm behind. Closing the door behind her, she left to walk around.

[ Gaia ]
Another lengthy argument ensued, in which Nero found out he had about a week. He returned to the top of the West tower, and looked around the city. "Gaia, go inside and make sure no one gets out here. I need some time alone." The machine did as it was told, leaving it's master in silence. "The kingdom of Turning Gears. My home, my pride, my inheritance. And now I have to die knowing it will end in catastrophe." He sighed. There was a noise behind him, but he ignored it thinking it was a bird.

He leaned over the railing, noticing a commotion at the front gate of the palace. "Gaia, come out here and see what's going on down there."
[ Gaia ]
He came when his master called, but barely made it out the door when he noticed a young girl on the balcony a few feet away. He stepped between the girl and his master, and pulled the sword off of his hip. "Identify yourself and your intent," he called with his electronic voice.

"I'm Renea," said the girl calmly, looking at the guard. Her blue dress blew around her. She tucked her hair behind her ear. "Forgive me I did not realize I trespassed into another territory."

[ Gaia ]
"Gaia, stand down, and put that ridiculous sword away. I have no idea why I ever made it for you." Nero was still watching the gate. Gaia paused a moment, and backed away from the girl. "I apologize, ma'am. I was ordered to keep my master alone." He walked to the edge of the balcony, and looked at the gate. "Nevermind, Gaia. It's over, whatever it was." He turned around, and looked at the girl. "Evening. I hope Gaia didn't scare you too bad."

"Oh, no, not at all," said Renea. She smiled gently at Nero. "Not much can frighten me." Her china blue eyes gleamed lightly.

He smiled back. "Good. Some of the people here do this weird thing where they run away screaming when he threatens their lives with a huge sword. Anyways, I'm Nero." He brought his hand to his forehead in a salute. "Who is it that I have the pleasure of meeting tonight?"

"I'm Renea," said the girl. She gave him a slight bow, a formal greeting of her kingdom.

"Like I said, a pleasure." He raised the goggles off of his eyes, and let them rest on his forehead. "Wow. your eyes are stunning."

Renea blushed at the compliment. "Thank you. The color is China blue," she told him. "Or at least, that's what I was told."

"Think nothing of it. Oh, where are my manners. Do you need anything? Food, Drink?" He leaned back against the railing, and enjoyed the breeze blowing around his body.
